Referral Process |
There are times when it is necessary and important for our patients to be referred to a pediatric medical or surgical specialist. We oftentimes refer our patients to other hospitals for specialty care. You can find links to their web sites on this page.
To start the referral process, please call our office and advise the receptionist that you would like a referral to a specialist. The receptionist will give the message to your physician and to our nurses and then let you know if the referral is approved. When your physician has approved the referral we will make the specialty appointment and contact you.
You will need to call the central referrals office at 624-4256 or 1-800-274-7787. They will contact the specialty office and provide the authorization number as soon as they receive the approval from the insurance company. You may want to call the referral office to be certain of the status of an authorization for your referral or to request additional visits for an existing referral.
We have included a list of providers to whom we frequently refer. You can search for the provider by specialty, or by the provider’s name. We have also included a map link to help you locate the specialist’s address and find an easy route to their office. If you cannot find the specialist that you want to see, please call our office at 623-2977 or email our parent helpers for assistance: doris.pietroski@mainegeneral.org or carol.jewett@mainegeneral.org.
If you need more information about your insurance carrier, we have included their web site links, as well.
