AH! Asthma Program
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs and more than 20 million Americans are afflicted by this disorder. It is the most common disease of childhood, affecting more than 6.3 million children. In Maine, it is estimated that 20,000 children have asthma and the disorder accounts for 50,000 missed school days.

Remember, Asthma is more common in children whose mother’s smoke! If you smoke, ask us to help you quit!

The AH! Asthma Health Program is a chronic disease management program designed to improve the care of children with asthma. Initiated in 1998, AH! is a collaborative effort instituted by Maine Health, the Maine Medical Center, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Maine and the American Lung Association of Maine. The goal of this program is to improve the health and quality of life of children and teens with asthma.

The idea is to identify and address patient, provider and system level barriers to care. We help you to identify action steps that your family can adapt to improve your child’s care. We know that we can improve the heath of children with asthma by utilizing care guidelines, patient and parent education, and proven care management.

AH! Asthma has been effective in decreasing the time that children are sick with this disease. When these principals are put in action hospitalizations and emergency room visits decline as do missed school days. Kids are healthier with AH! Asthma!!!

If your child has asthma and is cared for by Kennebec Pediatrics, please call our office at 623-2977 and speak with Peggy Pillsbury, RN and enroll in the program.

Visit the American Lung Association's Childhood Asthma website for more information.
